CONTINUOUS SEISMIC RECORDING

Sometimes the source cannot be synchronized with the seismograph, and seismic data must be recorded continuously without missing a sample for days, weeks, or months.  The Geode and Geode DZ are capable of doing this, with the addition of a GPS unit to discipline the time.  Data are recorded in multiple time-contiguous SEG-2 or SEG-D files and saved to tape, hard drive, or RAID.  Minimum sample interval depends on network throughput, which can be increased by adding network cards or, in the case of the DZ, line tap units.  Contact Geometrics to discuss your specific application.

COMMON APPLICATIONS

  • Seismic monitoring of oilfield operations

  • Perimeter security

  • Tunnel activity detection

  • Microearthquake monitoring

CONSIDERATIONS

Continous recording leads to large volumes of data.  Data volume should be estimated ahead of time and care should be taken to ensure seamless operation.  A RAID with hot-swappable hard drives is the preferred storage medium.

DELIVERABLES

The final product is a series of SEG-2 or SEG-D files which, when concatenated, form a continuous, gapless, GPS-synched seismic record.
